About Vishvapani

A Buddhist Voice ...

I’m a writer, speaker, and teacher of Buddhism, based in Cardiff, Wales.

I work with publishers, organisations, and individuals who want to bring Buddhist and mindfulness ideas to a wider audience — as an author, broadcaster, teacher, editorial consultant, and retreat leader.

My work centres on Buddhism and the modern world — what the tradition offers when we bring it into genuine contact with contemporary life, and what happens when we take its insights seriously rather than decoratively. Over the years that has meant writing biography and cultural commentary, broadcasting, teaching meditation and the Dharma, and increasingly exploring the territory where Buddhism meets myth, imagination, and the arts.

I’ve been a Buddhist practitioner since I was fifteen, and over four decades have been involved in many of the organisations and initiatives that have shaped Buddhism’s presence in Britain — working across traditions, with policymakers, and in the broader mindfulness movement. I’m a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, which I joined in 1992, and teach widely within the tradition and beyond — at centres, on retreat, and at festivals and events in the UK and internationally. Recent teaching has included leading a Buddhist pilgrimage for Tricycle and creating content for meditation apps including RoundGlass.

My books include Gautama Buddha: The Life and Teachings of the Awakened One (Quercus) and Reimagining Buddhism: Understanding Sangharakshita’s Life and Teachings (Windhorse, 2025). I’m currently writing Buddhism and Myth: The Country of Undefined Meaning. I also work as a structural editor on Buddhist and mindfulness books, and write regularly for Tricycle: the Buddhist Review, The Guardian, and BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day.

If you’d like to work with me — as a speaker, teacher, writer, or editorial consultant — I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch →
